voice chat = ğŸ”¥

I am not sure why, but up until a few days ago, I had forgotten and overlooked voice chat.

I remember maxing out the limit on my free plan when the feature first came out for ChatGPT. But the AI didn’t have access to search at that point. So their were limits to the conversation.

Fast forward to last night, I found myself chatting with Perplexity in voice mode for a very long time.

I asked Perplexity what LLM it was leveraging to create the voice chat. It told me ChatGPT-4.

It was interesting, I used the voice mode feature for what felt like a lengthy back and forth. And I never hit a use limit.

Then today, I grabbed a coffee and went for a walk. I proceeded to spend the next 10 – 15 minutes chatting with Perplexity.

It was amazing.

Yes, thoughts of the movie Her did come to mind. This tech is close.

I asked it about its capabilities and potential, which then led to it explaining ways it could assist me, which stirred a curiosity in my mind that I wanted to learn more about.

A few weeks ago, someone asked me what I thought about the discovery of tunnels under the pyramids in Giza.

Having been to Giza in 2016, and having explore the grounds of the Pyramids & Sphinx, I know there are tunnels underground that are not accessible to the public. So hearing someone say something about tunnels underground, while it did stir a curiosity, it also seemed most likely in the vein of what I already knew.

So I asked Perplexity to tell me about it.

(Reviewing the transcript here, I realize it didn’t do a great job capturing the full transcript, especially my questions, but it did transcribe the information that it shared.)

Hearing these replies come through my earbuds, I was floored on so many different levels. Learning about the pyramids AND learning about it from a voice chat with a very intelligent AI powering it — AMAZING!!

I spent the next few days chatting about a variety of topics.

Some of my favorites:

  • Helping me come up with an itinerary of things to do over the next few days
  • Giving me a list of all the upcoming music shows nearby
  • Creating a list of coffee shops nearby to checkout
  • Chatting ideas for leveraging LLMs
  • Chatting other ways entrepreneurs are leveraging AI
  • And so much more.

It was a fun and new way for me to engage LLMs and though it had a few hiccups along the way (transcription errors with background noise, lag in the UX, etc.) I am excited to see AI’s voice capacity evolve in time!
